Suicide note found beside lyricist Russell’s body

Police have recovered the hanging body of popular lyricist Mehboobul Hasan Russell, aka, Russell O’Neill, from his residence.
Describing the incident, Hafiz Al Farooq, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Tejgaon Industrial Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the media that “Russell was found hanging with a fan and there was a suicide note next to his body.”
The suicide note says “no one is responsible for my death. I committed suicide voluntarily. No one can be involved with this. And there will be no postmortem of my body”, said ADC Hafiz Al Farooq.
Russell O’Neill’s family and friends initially confirmed his handwriting. However, the police said that the matter will be further investigated.
Police initially thought it was a “suicide”. It is also being investigated whether there is incitement to suicide.
Citing the family, Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Sub-Inspector Md. Saidur Rahman said, “Russell went to his room after dinner. Seeing the door closed from inside, other members of the family shouted at around 11:30 pm. The police were informed when the door was not opened.”
Russell O’Neill was found hanging from the ceiling fan when the police recovered his body. The body was later recovered and sent to Suhrawardy Hospital.
“After investigation, the real reason will be known. A case has been registered in this regard,” said SI Saidur.
Russell O’Neill’s popular song ‘Din Bari Jay/Chare Pakhir Danay’. Most of the songs written by him are sung by Dalchhut and Bappa Majumdar.
Russell O’Neill was a journalist at one time. Later, he left journalism and took a job in an advertising agency. Along with writing songs, he has also written numerous commercial jingles.
