‘Friends’ TV series actor James Michael Tyler dies aged 59

US actor James Michael Tyler, popularly known as ‘Gunther’ in the comedy sitcom TV series ‘Friends’, has died aged 59.
James Michael Tyler breathed his last at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Carno, a statement of James’ manager said. “if you meet him once you made a friend for life,” the statement added.
According to BBC, James Michael Tyler was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2018 which later spread to his bones.
While James did not play the same amount of screen time as the six main ‘Friends’ characters, his role ‘Gunther’ was and remains a popular figure among fans. ‘Gunther’ worked as a waiter and manager in the show’s coffee house, Central Park. He had a crush on ‘Rachel’ played by popular actress Jennifer Aniston throughout the series.
“The world knew him as Gunther (the 7th Friend), but James Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and a loving husband,” his manager said.
“Wanting to help as many as possible, James bravely shared his story and became a campaigner for those with prostate cancers,” James’ manager also said.
Tyler appeared in almost 150 episodes of the comedy series ‘Friends’ which ran on NBC from 1994 to 2004. He made a brief appearance on the ‘Friends Reunion’ special via Zoom in May.
The co-actors of James Michael Tyler such as Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, production house Warner Bros Television have expressed deep shock and grief over his death and paid a tribute to the actor.
