Gold prices drop in local market

Gold prices dropped in the local market thanks to a fall in the global market. The price of gold fell by Tk 1,166 a bhori and now each bhori of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 78,382, down from Tk 79,548, Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) said in a press release on Wednesday evening.

A statement signed by MA Hannan Azad, chairman of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Monitoring of Bajus, said that Bajus has fixed the new price of gold in view of the overall situation in the international gold market, which will come into effect from July 7.

According to the new price, the price of the best quality or 22-carat gold (11.664 grams) has been reduced by Tk 1,166 to Tk 78,382; 21-carat has been reduced by Tk 1,050 to Tk 74,883; 18-carat price has been reduced by Tk 933 to Tk 64,152. Besides, the price of traditional gold has been reduced by Tk 759 to Tk 53,479.

Although the price of gold has decreased, the price of silver has remained unchanged. As a result, the price of 22-carat silver is fixed at Tk1,516. Besides, the price of 21-carat silver has been fixed at Tk 1,435, 18 carat silver at Tk 1,225, and the traditional method of silver at Tk 933.

Earlier, gold price was reduced to keep patch with the international market and local bullion markets on May 26.
