The government is considering introducing digital currency in the country through Bangladesh Bank as an alternative to the risky use of virtual currencies like cryptocurrency. A feasibility study will be conducted in this regard, said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today.
He said this while addressing the proposed budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
Mustafa Kamal said the main purpose of launching Central Bank Digital Currency (CDBC) was to facilitate money exchange in virtual transactions and to encourage startups and e-commerce businesses.
He said due to timely steps taken by our government, the spread of the internet and e-commerce in the country has increased tremendously. In this context, a feasibility study will be conducted to introduce CDBC in the country through Bangladesh Bank.
