Govt to purchase 30,000 tons of urea fertilizer at Tk 175cr

The government will purchase 30,000 tonnes of urea fertilizer from domestic company Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) with a cost of Tk 174,62,77,500. For this, a proposal has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase.

The information was given after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. After the meeting, the Finance Minister and Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Zillur Rahman jointly held a virtual press conference.

Zillur Rahman said 30,000 tonnes of fertilizer would be purchased from KAFCO through Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries. The government will buy bagged granular urea fertilizer in the 18th lot.

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase has approved seven proposals. The total expenditure for the implementation of these proposals will be Tk 1,854.64 crore. Of this, Tk 1,680 crore will be available from government funds and Tk 174.62 crore will be available as loans from domestic banks.

It was informed at the press conference that 2 proposals were presented for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (with 1 proposal in the table) and 7 proposals for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase. All seven proposals have been approved. 

Among the proposals of the Purchase Committee were two from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, one from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, one from the Ministry of Industries, one from the Prime Minister’s Office, one from the LGRD Divison and one from the Ministry of Commerce.
