The official activities of Alesha Mart, the country’s popular e-commerce platform, have been declared shut down over security concerns.

Announcing the matter in a post on Alesha Mart’s verified Facebook page at 3 am on Thursday, the company said “all the official activities of Alesha Mart will be closed from today till further notice due to unwanted and security reasons”.

“We were forced to make such a decision as some people raised their hands on our officials in the office and tried to force yesterday (December 1, Wednesday),” Alesha Mart mentioned in the Facebook post.

“Noted that the enforcers were not our customers, they did not have a payment schedule or even received an SMS. Our operations will resume as soon as adequate security measures will be in force. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for being with Alesha Mart,” the post added.

Like other e-commerce companies, Alesha Mart also runs a five-point campaign to sell various products including motorcycles at special discounts. In these campaigns, 45,000 customers ordered products.

The products of the campaign were also delivered in four phases. However, in the fifth phase, the company could not give motorcycles ordered by 7,300 customers. In contrast to these orders, around Tk 200 crore of customers’ money was stuck in the e-commerce company.

Alesha Mart collected motorcycles from SK Traders, a Uttara Motors dealer in the Tejgaon area and gave them to the customers. The SK Traders has stopped the supply of motorcycles to Alesha Mart since August due to surveillance and arrears in the e-commerce company.

Alesha Mart has a corporate and a registered office in the capital’s Banani. They also have another office at Nasrin Tower in Tejgaon. The dues of the customers were paid from there.

Meanwhile, the customer care activities of Alesha Mart’s head office in Banani have been stopped. Customers alleged that the top executives of the company went into hiding.
