Cargo with 4000 sacks of sugar capsizes in Meghna

A cargo-carrying about 4,000 sacks of sugar has capsized in the Meghna River in Barishal’s Hijla.

The cargo sank after hitting a char in the Meghna River near Kheyaghat in Kaichma, Hijla at around 9:30 am on Wednesday.

Hijla Naval Police Inspector Bikas Chandra Dey confirmed the matter.

Bolgate Master Abul Hashem said there were 3,720 sacks of sugar (50 kg per sack) of Fresh Company in that boat. They were taking sugar to a business establishment named Hossain Traders, a dealer of Fresh Company in Bhola.

Master Abul Hashem said they left for Bhola from Sonargaon, Narayanganj around 12 pm on Tuesday. The cargo sank after colliding with a char while crossing the Kaichma Ghat area of ​​Meghna around 9:30 am on Wednesday.

Naval Police Inspector Bikash Chandra Dey said the cargo first sank half after colliding with the char. Later, when the tide rises, it sank completely. The cargo will be recovered when there will be low tide.
