A trawler carrying 13 fishermen capsized in the Bay of Bengal estuary due to turbulent waves on the south coast of Bhola Char Fasson. Five fishermen were rescued in this incident, however, eight are still missing.

The incident of trawler capsizes took place at the Dhalchar area of the South Sea estuary on Tuesday night.

The sinking of the trawler took place in the Dakshin Sagar estuary of Dhalchar on Tuesday night.

Confirming the matter, Dhalchar UP Chairman Abdus Salam Howladar said 13  fishermen went to the “deep sea” for hilsa fishing. As the sea was turbulent, the trawler capsized in the South Bay estuary at Dhalchar at 8 pm on its way back.

“Upon hearing the news, other fishermen in the sea tried to rescue the sunken trawler and the fishermen, but due to the storm, the attempt was largely unsuccessful,” he also said. Later, they rescued five fishermen.

Eyewitness fishermen said that eight fishermen along with the trawler were washed away in the sea due to the strong current.

Char Manika Coast Guard Contingent Commander Aliullah said the efforts to rescue the missing fishermen and the trawler are continuing. However, the identity of the missing fishermen is not known. The missings are believed to be a resident of different villages in Dhalchar UP.

We received information about the trawler capsizing through the fishermen in the ghat. The Coast Guard of Char Manika Zone has been informed to rescue the missing fishermen, said upazila senior fisheries officer Maruf Hossain Minar.
