After the 65-day ban in Noakhali’s island upazila Hatiya, flocks of Hilsa are being caught in the nets of fishermen in the sea. In three days, 21 fishermen caught a total of 102 mounds of Hilsas from only one boat.
Fishermen are happy after getting netted fish – it’s like finding a golden deer after a dream journey.
On Tuesday (July 27) at around 10:30 am, when the fish were auctioned at Hatiya Chairman Ghat, Meghna Fishing, a local fish trade company, bought the fish for Tk 25,00,050.
Fisherman Parimal said that 21 fishermen threw a net in the sea with a fishing boat named ‘MV Araf-3’ to catch Hilsa three days ago. After that, many large Hilsas and also small Hilsas were caught. “Never before have so many fishes been caught in one boat. As soon as they arrived at the ghat, many people gathered to see the fishes. Later, Meghna Fishing bought all the fishes at auction,” he added.
Meghna Fishing agency manager Md. Habib Bhuiyan said the boat owners, Sareng, and fishermen are all happy to be able to sell fish at a good price. They again went to the deep sea to catch fish. The seller expressed hope that more Hilsa fishes will be caught in the fishermen’s nets in the sea in the next few days.
District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Iqbal Hossain said more fish are expected to be caught in the future. Local fishermen are benefiting from compliance with various government restrictions including the breeding season. Due to this, the proliferation of different species of fish in rivers and seas has increased. As a result, a lot of fish are being caught.
