1 killed in Rangamati gunfight

A man was killed in a gunfight between two terrorist groups at Rajsthali upazila in Rangamati. The incident took place at Ogari Para at Ward 7 of Gainda Union under the upazila on Friday night. 

The deceased was identified as Abhishek Chakma, member of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) core group.

Rajasthan Union Chairman Puchingmang Marma confirmed the incident of gunfight and said that the sound of gunfire could be heard in Ogari Para area till midnight on Friday. On Saturday (June 25) morning, locals went to work and found the body of a man dressed in olive-colored clothes lying on the road. Later police was informed of the matter.

According to local sources, the shootings took place between the JSS (Santu Larma) and the Mugh Party. Currently, the two teams are facing each other. There is panic in the area over the incident.

Nagendra Chakma, acting general secretary of JSS Rangamati, said they had no organizational activities in Rajasthan. He has not received any news of JSS member being killed.

Confirming the incident, Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mahmuda Begum said, "We sent a police force in the morning after receiving information that a bullet-riddled body was lying there. They recovered the body around noon and brought it to the police station."
