Wife, mother-in-law among 3 hacked dead in Sherpur

A man allegedly hacked three people including his wife and mother-in-law to death in Sreebardi Upazila of Sherpur.
The incident took place at Khoshalpur Putal village in Kakilakura union of the upazila at around 8:30 pm on Thursday (June 23).
The deceased were identified as Monira Begum, 40, wife of alleged killer Mintu Miah, Monira's mother Shefali Khatun, 60, and uncle Mahmud Haji, 65. Three others were injured in the incident. They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The condition of one of the injured is critical.
Sherpur Superintendent of Police Hasan Nahid Chowdhury confirmed the matter, saying Monira Begum, daughter of Maou Mia of Putal village, was married to Mintu Mia of Geramara village about 18 years ago. They have two children. Monira Begum came to her father's house at the beginning of last Ramadan.
He said that due to a family dispute, Montu Mia came to his father-in-law's house wearing a burqa around 8:30 pm on Thursday and hacked three people to death with a sharp weapon. Bachchuni Begum (52), Monu Mia (65) and Shahadat Hossain (40) were injured in the incident.
Locals later rescued them and took them to a local hospital. The doctor on duty there sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
