Lightning kills farmer, injuring 4 

A farmer was killed and four housewives were injured in separate lightning strikes in Meherpur.

The deceased was identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique (45), son of Riaz Uddin of Radhakantpur village under Meherpur Sadar upazila.

The injured were identified as Angura Khatun, 30, wife of Abdus Salam of Gopalpur village in the same upazila, Kahinur Begum, 25, wife of Majidul Islam of Rajapur village, Ahsan Ali, 40, a farmer of Radhakantpur village and Rahmatullah.

The condition of injured Angura and Kahinur is critical, said Belal Sumon, an emergency department doctor at Meherpur General Hospital.

According to locals, farmer Abu Bakkar Siddique was planting paddy in the local field. Abu Bakkar Siddique was seriously injured when lightning struck on rain. He was rushed to Meherpur General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Doctor Belal Sumon said the condition of the two injured women was critical. They are being treated at the hospital.
