26 people trapped in floodwater rescued

Twenty-six members of six families have been rescued after they were stuck in floodwater due to heavy rains in Jhenaigati, Sherpur. Fire service, public representatives, scout members and volunteers were able to rescue them after 4 hours of effort on Friday. Jhenaigati UNO Farooq Al Masud led the rescue operation.
The water of Maharshi and Someshwari rivers of Jhenaigati upazila is being following over the danger level since Thursday night due to heavy rains and downpours. About 30 villages including Jhenaigati, Ramerkura, Khailkura, Bankali, Chatal and Ahmednagar of Jhenaigati Sadar Union, Dhanshail, Bagervita, Kanduli, Bilaspur, Madarpur of Dhanshail Union, Bishnupur Charantala, Ainapur and Kansha were flooded.
Jhenaigati Sadar Union Chairman Shahadat Hossain said the water broke the dam of Maharshi river in Ramerakura area. The six families could not get out of the house as the water of the hill slope suddenly entered. There are 26 members in those families including old, pregnant and children. They were at risk as they are stuck all day and the water level rises. Upon receiving the news, UNO Farooq Al Masud rushed to the spot and rescued the 26 trapped people and brought them to safe place.
Besides, UNO Farooq Al Masud, Upazila Engineer Shubh Basak, Project Implementation Officer Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Public Health Engineer Radha Vallabh Sarkar and others visited the flooded areas during the day and inquired about the victims.
Abdul Mannan, a member of the Jhenaigati Fire Service, said the families trapped in the floodwaters had been rescued and evacuated with the help of people's representatives and volunteers.
UNO Farooq Al Masud said 26 members of six families trapped on a hillside had been rescued and taken to safe place. Dried food is being distributed among them.
