The water level of the river Jamuna has started rising in Jamalpur due to the steep slopes coming down from the upper reaches and heavy rains. The lower areas of the Jamuna bank are being flooded. In the last 24 hours, the water level has risen by 38 cm and is flowing at 14 cm above the danger level.
According to local sources, Chinaduli, Kulkandi, Belgachha, Noarpara, and Sapdhari Unions of Islampur Upazila, Chukaibari, Bahadurabad, and Chikajani Unions of Dewanganj Upazila are being flooded. The crop fields of different villages have been submerged. The water has entered some villages. If the water level continues to rise, people in these areas will become waterlogged.
Abdul Mannan, gauge reader of the Water Development Board (WDB), said that in the last 24 hours, the water level in the Jamuna River has risen by 38 cm and is flowing at 14 cm above the danger level. As a result, water has started flowing into the lower reaches of the river. The water continues to rise.
Jamalpur District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Alamgir Hossain said the district administration has all kinds of preparations to deal with the flood situation. In the meantime, instructions have been given to the administrative officers of all the upazilas.
