Four killed in Chattogram landslides

Four people were killed and three others injured in separate landslides in Chattogram city's Akbarshah area. The incidents took place in the Barishal Ghona area of ​​Akbar Shah Police Station at around 1:00 am on Saturday (June 18) and in the Bijoy Nagar area of ​​Fais Lake at around 3:00 am. 

Akbar Shah Police Station OC Wali Uddin Akbar confirmed the deaths of the four.

He said they got the news of a landslide in the Barishal Ghona area of ​​Lake No. 1 under Akbar Shah Police Station at around 1:00 am. Later, a team of fire service rushed to the spot and rescued the five and sent them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Of them, Shahinur Akhter, 26, and Mainul Akhter, 24, were pronounced dead by the hospital's emergency department doctor.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Fire Service's Assistant Director Faruk Hossain Sikder said another landslide took place at around 3:00 am in the Bijoy Nagar area of ​​Lake City, Fayes Lake, under Akbar Shah Police Station. On information, fire service members rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. Two people named Liton (23) and Emon (14) died there. 

Biswajit Chowdhury, forecasting officer of Chattogram's Patenga Meteorological Office, said that 48.8 millimeters (mm) of rainfall was recorded in Chattogram in the last 24 hours till 6:00 am. Rainfall is likely to continue today.
