Killing Rohingya leader in Ukhiya: Mastermind arrested

The Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has arrested Maulavi Anas, mastermind of the murder of Rohingya leader Azim Uddin in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Five people were arrested in this connection.

The arrested Maulavi Anas, son of Maulavi Zakaria of D-block of Balukhali Rohingya camp in the upazila.

8 APBN Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Kamran Hossain said Maulavi Anas was arrested in a raid late Monday night. “He is the mastermind of the murder and the 14th accused in the case. He was handed over to the Ukhiya police station,” he added.

On Thursday night, miscreants tried to hack Rohingya leader Azim Uddin to death with a sharp weapon in a surprise attack on the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya. Two others were injured in the incident. 

Azim Uddin died when he was rushed to the MSF hospital adjacent to the camp. The next day, the victim’s wife Sanjida named 15 people and filed a case with Ukhiya Police Station accusing 15-20 unidentified people. So far, five accused have been arrested in that case.
