6 get life imprisonment for killing Bogura farmer

A local court has sentenced six people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Bogura. At the same time, they were fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to serve another six months jail.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Habiba Mandal handed down the verdict at around 12 noon on Monday. The convicts were present before the court during the verdict.

The deceased was identified as Kokil Chandra Mandal, son of Shyamal Chandra Mandal of Krishnachandrapur Majhipara village in Gabtali upazila of Bogura.

The convicts are Nityananda, Gouranga, Laxmicharan, Navadwip, Ramni Kanto and Raten. They are residents of Krishnachandrapur Majhipara village in Gabtali upazila. Farmer Kokil Chandra Mandal was killed following a land dispute, said Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Binoy Kumar Bishu.

He said farmer Kokil Chandra Mandal was killed on March 25, 2010, over a land dispute. He was beaten to death with sticks and rods. Later, his father filed a murder case with Gabtali Model Police Station.

Bogura court inspector Subrata Banerjee said six accused had been sent to jail after the verdict in the murder case was announced.
