Fire at ferry in Padma

A fire broke out at a moving ferry named Begum Rokeya on the Padma river at the Majhirkandi channel on Saturday morning.
It has been reported that the ferry left Shimulia Ghat in Munshiganj for Majhirkandi in Shariatpur at 4:45 am. When it entered the Majhirkandi channel at 5:15 am, a broke out at the cabin of the ferry.
However, No casualties were reported as the fire was brought under control by using the ferry's water pump.
Ferry master Mintu Ranjan Das said the upper seat of the cabin next to the canteen caught fire. The bed, ceiling door and exterior ceiling of the cabin were damaged in the fire. No one was in the cabin at the time of the incident.
The reason behind the fire could not be known.
Shafiqul Islam, deputy general manager of BIWTC at Shimulia Ghat, confirmed the information.
