Assistant engineer dead as pickup hits motorcycle

An assistant engineer was killed and 17 others injured when a pickup van hit motorcycle at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur. The condition of three of the injured is critical.

The accident took place at Hili junction of the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway around 7:00 pm on Friday. 

The deceased was identified as Mozahar, 28, a resident of Raninagar-Tegra village under Birampur Upazila. He was working as Assistant Engineer in the Roads and Urban Development (LGED) Department in Palashbari Upazila of Gaibandha.

It has been reported that Mozahar was going to his home in Birampur from Palashbari, his workplace, on a motorcycle. When he reached Hilimore of the Upazila, a Gaibandha-bound pickup van carrying 20 passengers from Dinajpur hit the motorcycle. 

Mohazar died on the spot. Following the collision,  the pickup van overturned on the road. On information, the fire service members rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.

Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer Dr Parthajwimoy Sarker said three of the 17 injured were in critical condition. They were sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. The remaining 14 are undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

Ghoraghat Police Station OC Abu Hassan Kabir said the body would be handed over to the family.
