One gets life term in Lakshmipur abduction case

A local court today sentenced Swapan Prakash Amir Hossain alias Nur Islam to life imprisonment in a case filed over the kidnapping of Md. Ali in Lakshmipur. 

District and Sessions Judge Md. Rahibul Islam passed the verdict on Monday afternoon.

The convict is identified as the son of late Abdur Rob of Hasmat Ali Bepari's house in Abirnagar of Sadar upazila. At the same time, the court also fined the accused Tk 10,000, in default, he will have to serve one more year of rigorous imprisonment. The convicted accused is a fugitive. 

Another accused in the case Helal Uddin was acquitted by the court. His home is in Charpara village of Pangsa police station in Rajbari district. 

According to court sources, on May 13, 2013, Swapan Palli swindled Tk 2 lakh by promising to give him a job in Pollibidut. When they want to return the money, various kinds of threats are made. At one point he was called from home in the name of returning the money. He could not be found after many searches since then. 

Ali was threatened with death. In this case, Ali's wife Afroza Akter Nayan filed a case against Swapan and Helal Uddin with local police station.

Police filed a charge sheet against Swapan and Helal. Judge Court PP Advocate Jasim Uddin confirmed the information.
