Mitali Express enters Bangladesh with 12 passengers

The third intercity train Mitali Express has entered Bangladesh with 12 passengers on its inaugural journey from New Jalpaiguri, India.
After 57 years, the train entered the Chilahati Railway Station in Domar upazila of Nilphamari at 2:12 pm on Wednesday, 27 minutes after the scheduled time. Upon entry, Asim Kumar Talukder, manager of Bangladesh Railway Western Region and Shahidul Islam, chief traffic officer, greeted the Indian drivers and guards of Mitali Express with flowers.
Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon and Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the inaugural journey of the train from the Central Railway Building (CRB) of India.
It was seen on the spot that the crowd gathered after the arrival of Mitali Express at Chilahati Railway Station. Strict security of police and railway police have been observed in the station area since morning. Railway authorities have taken the necessary steps to handle the crowd.
Asim Kumar Talukder, director general (DG) of the Western Region of Bangladesh Railway, said the operation of this train has facilitated communication between Nepal and Bhutan, including several Indian states. Besides, after a long time, the desired demand of the people of this region was fulfilled. After all the formalities, Mitali Express left Chilahati for Dhaka Cantonment Railway Station at 2:42 pm.
Noted that the Mitali Express will leave Dhaka on Mondays and Thursdays every week and will depart from New Jalpaiguri station in India on Sundays and Wednesdays. The train will run with 456 seats during the day and 408 seats at night.
