It has been decided to construct a flyover at Lalpol on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Feni to alleviate the risk of mishaps and accidents while traveling to the southern part of the Feni district.

Feni Roads and Highways Division Executive Engineer Binoy Kumar Paul confirmed the matter on Friday.

The Executive Engineer says the length of the flyover with a “minimum of 6 lanes” will be 600 meters. Vehicles plying the Dhaka-Chattogram route will use the flyover directly. Feni-Sonagazi transports will cross the highway under the flyover.

Such a decision has been taken by the concerned division in mid-April. The next activities will be started soon, said the engineer of the Road Division.

Binoy Kumar Paul added that the design is being prepared keeping in view the four-lane road for the economic zone and the future “six-lane” Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. Tenders will be called after the completion of preliminary works. The project may take a maximum of three years to complete.

About this, Feni-2 constituency MP and general secretary of district Awami League Nizam Uddin Hazari said the long-time demand of the Feni people -- “alternative measures” at Lalpol to prevent accidents on the highway.

“This was in my election manifesto in the last parliamentary election. I am happy to know that a long-standing demand of the people of Feni is going to be fulfilled,” he added.
