The Consumer Rights Protection Department has seized 10 tonnes of soybean oil in separate warehouses at Kalighat and Kazir markets in Sylhet. The organization's Sylhet district office conducted a mobile court and seized the oil on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to mobile court sources, 5 tonnes of soybean oil was seized from the warehouse of a shop called Maher Brothers in Kalighat on Tuesday. The oil was later sold to buyers at an earlier price and the Maher Brothers was fined. In addition, another 5 tonnes of soybean oil was seized from a house in Kazir Bazar on Wednesday.

Fakhrul Islam, deputy director of the Sylhet divisional office of the Consumer Protection Department, said some unscrupulous traders were cheating buyers by selling soybean oil at exorbitant prices. The truth of this allegation was found by conducting a raid. Later, 10 tons of soybean oil stored in two warehouses was seized.

The consumer rights official also said that the campaign would be continued in the interest of the people.
