The train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Noakhali routes have been resumed after eight hours of suspension following a train derailment in Cumilla.

After the rescue work of three derailed compartments of the train, the train movement became normal around 12:00 pm on Monday.

Earlier, three bogies of a freight train derailed at Rajapur Railway Station in Burichang Upazila of the district around 4:00 am.

Liaquat Ali Majumder, senior assistant engineer (roads) of Comilla Railway said two rescue trains from Laksam and Akhaura railway junctions rushed to the spot at around 9:30 am and rescued the derailed bogies after two and a half hours of frantic efforts.

Due to the accident, Upakul Express leaving Noakhali got stuck at Laksam Railway Junction, Dhaka-bound Subarna Express at Cumilla Station and Turna Nishitha Express at Shashidal Station.
