Police have recovered the body of a man named Rabiul Islam alias Meherul at Shajahanpur upazila in Bogura. Police initially believe he was beaten and strangled to death as a suspect in the theft.

His body was sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMCH) Hospital for autopsy on Friday afternoon. Earlier, his body was recovered from Shakpala area of ​​the upazila around 6am. Later the relatives of the deceased came and confirmed the identity.

Shajahanpur Koigari police outpost sub-inspector (SI) Raju Kamal said he was killed on Friday morning.

The deceased Meherul was working as a bicycle mechanic from a rented house in Shakpala area. He is the son of Habibur Rahman of Damrul village in Bhatra UP of Nandigram upazila of Bogura.

Police have arrested a man named Raju for questioning in connection with the death of Meherul. Raju is a resident of Shakpala area, son of Abu Taleb. Police arrested him from his home on Friday morning. He is currently being kept at the Koigari police outpost.

SI Raju Kamal said Meherul was addicted to drugs and used to theft in the area. Some locals may nab him as a suspect in the theft in Shakpala area, beat him and kill him by suffocation. However, nothing can be said clearly now. Details will be known when the autopsy report is found.

He further said that efforts are being made to uncover the mystery of the incident.
