Case filed over tourists’ beating in Jaflong

Volunteers attack tourists at the Jaflong Tourist Center in Sylhet over buying tickets around 2 pm on Thursday

A case has been filed against the volunteers for attacking tourists at the Jaflong Tourist Center in Sylhet.  

Tourist Sumon Sarkar, who was injured in the attack, has filed a case with the Gowainghat police station. Four others, including five arrestees in the case, have been charged in the case.

Confirming the matter, Gowainghat Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said they have been charged under several sections including “torture of women”. 

Upazila administration workers at the counter of Jaflong tourist center got into an argument with the tourists over buying tickets around 2 pm on Thursday. At one stage, the staff at the counter beat the tourists with sticks. They also assaulted some women at that time. Seven people were injured in this incident.

Police arrested five assailants in a raid on Thursday afternoon. The detainees are – Md. Selim Ahmed, Joynal Abedin, Lakshan Chandra Das, Sohail Rana and Nazim Uddin.
