Country’s largest Eid Jamaat held in Dinajpur Gor-E-Shahid

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, has been celebrated at the historic Gor-E-Shahid Baro Maidan in Dinajpur with religious fervor and enthusiasm. Due to the widespread publicity, people spontaneously gathered here in groups to perform Eid prayers.

Concerns claimed that about six lakh worshipers took part in the congregation, which was held at 9 am on Tuesday (May 3). Imam of Dinajpur Genral Hospital Jame Mosque Imam Shamsul Haque Kasemi led the congregation.

Eid prayers have not been held here for the last two years due to the COVID pandemic situation. This year, as the COVID outbreak is under control, the worshipers flock to perform prayers at this historic ground. Apart from Sadar Upazila, devotees from different upazilas of the district and surrounding districts rushed to take part in this historic Eid Jamaat.

Strict security measures were in place around the Eidgah grounds, centering on the large Eid Jamaat. Besides CCTV cameras, there was strict intelligence surveillance. RAB, BGB, police, Ansar and other members of law enforcement were also active in the area.

Local MP, Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Iqbalur Rahim, Justice Enayetur Rahim of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, District Council Administrator Azizul Imam Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Khaled Mohammad Zaki, Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Hossain, Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam, leaders and workers of different political parties and officials and employees of different levels of administration took part in the congregation.

Noted that there is no other Eidgah ground in the subcontinent where so many people perform prayers together. Its construction work started in 2015. The Eidgah has been built following the Mughal style of architecture. The height of the arch is 55 feet. The 52-domed Eidgah has two minarets, each 60 feet high. The two middle gates are 47 feet wide. It has 32 arches. The Eidgah has been planned by the whip of Jatiya Sangsad and MP of Dinajpur-3 constituency Iqbalur Rahim. The construction of the main part of the Eidgah Minar cost Tk 3 crore 80 lakh. 52 domes have been placed at a height of 20 feet. The height of the two gates is 30 feet.

The Eidgah Minar covers about half of the western part of the country’s largest historic Gor-E-Shahid Maidan. Each dome has electrical connections to present it as a sight to behold. The light in the minaret has been shining since evening. Besides, 32 arches of 516 feet in length have been constructed.

Before the Eid prayers, Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam, Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Khaled Mohammad Zaki, Justice Enayetur Rahim of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and local MP Jatiya Sangsad Whip Iqbalur Rahim made the welcome speech.

At the time, Whip Iqbalur Rahim said it is the largest Eidgah ground in the subcontinent in terms of size. Its area is about 22 acres. This time around 6 lakh devotees from Dinajpur district and surrounding districts have performed Eid prayers. The minaret has been constructed with the funding of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. There are plans to make it more beautiful in the future.
