Sholakia to host Eid jamaat at 10am

The largest Eid jamaat at Sholakia maidan in Kishoreganj will be held at 10am tomorrow, after a Covid-19 induce hiatus of two years.

Thousands of people will offer Eid prayers at Sholakia maidan. That preparation is going on. The beloved Eidgah Maidan is being made ready for  suitable for prayers day and night. The locals are happy to see the arrangements.

Imam of Sholakia Mosque Golap Mia said that after two years, there is a congregation in Sholakia, for which the enthusiasm of the worshipers is high. This time maybe the presence of people will surpass the record of all time. Sholakia resident Alauddin was standing in the field watching the work of the workers.

He said that Eid Jamaat of Sholaki has not been closed due to any disaster in the history of almost two hundred years. However, due to Corona, that continuity could not be maintained. Hopefully, this congregation will not be closed any more.

As Covid-19 ban has been relaxed a bit, efforts are being made to organize Eid Jamaat in Sholakia. This will be the 195th congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr. Last minute preparations are now underway in the traditional Sholakia for the largest Eid congregation in the subcontinent. However, this time security is beefed up.

Going to the field on the spot, it can be seen that most preparations are complete. The ground has been demarcated, the potholes have been filled up and the walls in the area have been painted. The toilets and places of ablution have also been renovated.

According to the management committee of Sholakia Eidgah, security is being given top priority this time. The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police are repeatedly visiting the Eidgah ground to observe the preparations and security of the Jamaat.

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of Sholakia Eidgah Steering Committee Mohammad Shamim Alam urged all to abide by the security rules in the congregation, saying the largest Eid congregation of the subcontinent was held in Sholakia. Although there has been no Jamaat for the last two years due to Corona situation, this time there will be Jamaat. There will be a strict security zone on the field. So nothing but hats, jainamaz and masks can be taken on the field. Bags, mobile phones and umbrellas should also be left at home. At this time he wants everyone's cooperation in organizing prayers in a safe and festive atmosphere.

Four levels of security have been put in place keeping in mind the militant attack in Sholakia in 2016. Every devotee will be searched several times. The entire field and surroundings will be covered with a safety belt.

Besides police, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion and Ansar, plainclothesmen will be deployed to the ground. CCTV cameras and watchtowers have also been installed.

The Superintendent of Police urged everyone to cooperate in this regard without being disturbed by the extra security.

Having established his fiefdom, Dewan Hazrat Khan Bahadur, the sixth descendant of Isha Khan, built Sholakia Eidgah in 1828 on the bank of Narasunda river.

According to local researchers, around 125,000 Muslims took part in the first congregation.

So the Eidgah got the name from Shoa Lakhi Math (shoa meaning one and a quarter and lakh meaning a hundred thousand), the pronunciation gradually degenerated into 'Sholakia'.
