4 killed, 8 hurt in Kushtia clash

At least four people were killed and eight others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing supremacy at Jhaudia in Kushtia.

The incident took place at Asthanagar village of Jhaudia UP under Sadar University Islamic University Police Station on Monday afternoon.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Islamic University Police Station Mustafizur Rahman Ratan confirmed the matter.

The deceased were identified as Matiar Rahman, son of Azizul Haque, a resident of Astanagar village, Laltu Mandal, son of Daud Mandal, Abul Kashem, son of Hossain Mandal and Abdur Rahim Malitha, son of Abul Malitha. The injured have been admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.

OC Mostafizur Rahman said that at around 4:30 pm on Monday, Keramat Ali's supporter Abdur Rahim Malitha had an argument with some of his opponents in Astanagar market. At one point, some men attacked Rahim with sharp weapons and sticks.

After receiving the news, the supporters of Keramat Ali attacked the Mehedi's supporters and the clash between the two sides started. Matiar, Laltu and Abul Kashem were hit by sticks and sharp weapons during the clash.

The OC said that after receiving the news, the Islamic University police rescued the injured and took them to Kushtia General Hospital. The emergency department doctor declared four of them dead.

Meanwhile, the condition of two out of 10 people admitted to the hospital is critical, said the resident medical officer of Kushtia General Hospital, Dr. Ashraful Alam.
