The helpless landless people of Faridpur upazila will be given a house with land, worth Tk 5 lakh to Tk 50 lakh, as an Eid gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to Faridpur district administration sources, the gift will be officially handed over to 110 landless people of Faridpur on April 26. On that day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be virtually connected from Ganabhaban. On the same day, she will declare Nagarkanda as the first upazila of Faridpur to be “homeless and landless”.
On the occasion of Mujib Borsho, in 2020, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the initiative to implement a new shelter project with the aim of giving landless people their own address in the country. Now the work of the third phase of this project is underway.
Concerned people say that this time the project is being implemented as an “Eid gift” from the Prime Minister.
It has been seen in Kafai Kaichail village of Kaichail union of Nagarkanda that last-minute work is going on for the construction of houses across the project site. At the same time, the Eid gift distribution program is also going on. The remaining works are being completed to make the houses on the project site suitable for the living of the beneficiaries.
“We used to live in other people’s houses as rent. If we could not pay the rent at the end of the month, we would hear a lot of bad things from the owner. It is a great pleasure for us now that the Prime Minister has given us a house. We no longer heed obscene words,” said Sabera Khatun, a beneficiary.
Nagarkanda Upazila Engineer Md. Rezaul Karim said in the third phase, 110 families of the upazila are being allotted houses with land. On April 26, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over these virtual Eid gift houses. Through this, Nagarkanda is going to be free of landless upazila.
Faridpur DC Atul Sarkar said the Prime Minister was going to distribute land and houses across the country as Eid gifts. As part of this, 110 people are getting houses with land in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda. The government is going to rehabilitate 450 homeless people in Nagarkanda upazila and 5,000 homeless people in the Faridpur district under this project.
