Accused four gang rapists

Members of Rapid Action Batallion (RAB) have arrested four people for gang-raping a sixth-grader at Dasar in Madaripur.

The accused took the girl at gunpoint and detained her for four days and then gang-raped after pushing her anesthetic, the RAB said at a press conference. The arrested persons were later handed over to Kotalipara police station after a legal process.

The arrested are Gopal Barai, son of Kalu Barai of Paltana village in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj, and Atal Barai, son of Khokon Barai of the same village, Plavan Barai, son of Pratap Barai and Varun Bala, son of Narayan Bala of Mushuria village.

Mohammad Sadiqul Islam, company commander of RAB-8 Madaripur camp, said on Sunday afternoon that the 6th class student was going to Kotalipara in Gopalganj from Dasar upazila of Madaripur on the night of March 26. Later, the 12-year-old girl was taken away from the Pirerbari area on a motorcycle to an abandoned building. After making her unconscious, the first recorded a nude video and then gang-raped her. The next day, the victim was taken to another two-story building and detained for three more days before being gang-raped.

The girl broke the window and fled as the scoundrels were intoxicated. Later, she took shelter in a nearby house. The victim's father filed a gang rape case against four persons at Kotalipara police station. The RAB arrested Gopal Barai from Shahbagh in the capital from Monday to Tuesday morning, Varun Bala from Shibchar in Madaripur, Atal Barai and Plavan Barai from Kotalipara in Gopalganj.

The RAB also said in a press conference that the arrested persons had initially admitted their involvement in the incident. Besides, the accused were handed over to Kotalipara police station in Gopalganj after legal process. The RAB has also promised to provide all kinds of legal assistance to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, the physical examination of the victim has been completed at Gopalganj District Sadar Hospital.
