‘Rape victim’ schoolgirl commits suicide: Prime accused Tamim held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Tamim Ahmed Swapan, an only accused in connection with the suicide of a ‘rape victim’ tenth-grade schoolgirl in Melandaha, Jamalpur.

He was arrested from Mymensingh on Saturday morning. 

The rapist was indetifed as Tamim Ahmed Swapan, 25, son of Md. Khoka of Sadhupur Kandapara area of Melandaha upazila.

RAB-14, CPC-1 Company Commander Squadron Leader Ashiq Uzzaman confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, police recovered the hanging body of a schoolgirl from her house in the Shahjatpur area of ​​Melandaha municipal town on Thursday evening. The schoolgirl’s father has filed a case with Melandha police station alleging that his daughter was “persuaded to commit suicide”. The only accused in the case is Tamim Ahmed Swapan.

The schoolgirl’s father said his daughter left for school on Thursday morning. She came home from school at around 3:30 pm and went to her bedroom. Hearing no voice from her room at around 6:30 pm, they entered her room and saw their daughter’s hanging body with a veil covered around her neck.

When the schoolgirl’s parents and locals took her to Melandaha Upazila Health Complex, the duty doctor declared her dead.

According to the girl’s family, the schoolgirl wrote two letters before committing suicide. One of them wrote – “Mother, the nephew of Wahab Chairman spent a room with me today. He used to disturb me a lot. He was telling me if I meet him, he will not disturb me anymore. But he did something very bad to me, which cannot be said. Be well, parents. And that boy’s name is Tamim. Regards, your loved one Ashamoni.”

In another letter, she wrote – “Mother, forgive me if you can. If there is any justice, the boy’s name is Tamim. Parents, be well. Forget me. If I were alive, your honor would be gone. I am saying again, please be well. Goodbye.”
