Train hits autorickshaw in Nilphamari: Death toll soars 4

Death toll from the collsion between an autorickshaw and Barindra Express train at Darwani Level Crossing in Nilphamari stood at 4. Five more workers, including the driver, were seriously injured at the time.
The accident took place around 7:30 am on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified – Shefali Begum, wife of Ashraf Ali of Dhanipara in Sonaray UP of Nilphamari Sadar upazila, Sahera Begum, wife of Belal Hossain of Koranipara, Romana Akter, wife of Mosharraf Hossain Badir of Dhanipara and Minara Begum, wife of Arman Hossain of Dhanipara.
The injured were identified – autorickshaw driver Apon Hossain, passengers Nazmin Akhter, Mina Akhter, Rawshan Ara and Romana Akhter. All of them live in Dhanipara area of Sonaya UP in Sadar upazila.
According to locals, eight female workers of Uttara EPZ were going to work by an autorickshaw in the morning. The Chilahati-bound Barindra Express train leaving Khulna hit the autorickshaw while the autorickshaw was crossing the Darwani Level Crossing. At that time, the autorickshaw plunged a few feet away.
Shefali of Sadar died on the spot. Later, with the help of locals, fire service personnel rescued the injured and took them to the local hospital. Sahera and Romana died on the way to the hospital. Minara died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMC).
“The accident was believed to have taken place due to dense fog,” Syedpur Railway Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Abdur Rahman Biswas.
