A Narail court today sentenced one brother to death and another to life imprisonment in a murder case. At the same time, they were fined Tk 50,000.

District and Sessions Judge Munshi Moshiar Rahman passed the verdict at 10:30 on Sunday. The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.

The death convict is Basher Ali Mollah, 53, son of Sona Mollah of Kamkul village of Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore district while the lifer is his younger brother Kamal Mollah, 45.

Citing the case statement, state counsel (PP) Imdadul Haque said that Basher Ali and Kamal used to tease the widowed sister of Babul Mollah of Shimulia village in Narail Sadar upazila. Rezaul Mollah, son of Babul Mollah also forbade them. But they did not listen to him. On the contrary, he became furious.

Due to this, on the night of June 26, 2019, Bacher and Kamal went to Rezaul's house and dragged him to the backyard. Later, Kamal hit Rezaul on the head with an iron-nailed bamboo leaving him seriously injured, and fled the spot when the victim started shouting.

Rezaul was later rescued and taken to Narail Sadar Hospital and later to Khulna Medical College Hospital by his relatives where he died the next day on June 27.

Rezaul's father Babul Mollah filed a murder case with Narail Sadar Police Station over the incident. The court passed the verdict on Sunday after a long hearing.
