AL candidate wins in Tangail-7 by polls

Awami League nominated Khan Ahmed Shuvo has been elected MP in Tangail-7 (Mirzapur) constituency by-election unofficially.
According to Shahedunnabi Chowdhury, Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of Tangail-7, Awami League nominated Khan Ahmed Shuvo got 1, 04,059 votes while his nearest rival Jatiya Party's Zahirul Islam Zahir got 17,063 votes with plow symbol.
Among others, Bangladesh Workers Party candidate Golam Nawzab Chowdhury got 1,045 votes, Rupa Roy Chowdhury of Bangladesh Congress Party got 436 votes and independent candidate Nurul Islam Nuru got 2,436 votes.
Earlier, on Sunday (January 18), for the first time, a by-election for this constituency was held through EVM. Voting starts at 8am and was continues till 4 pm non-stop. Five candidates have contested in this by-election.
District Election Office sources said Tangail-7 (Mirzapur) constituency consists of one municipality and 14 unions. EVM voting was held in 121 centers of the upazila. The total number of voters in Mirzapur municipality and 14 unions is 3 lakh 40 thousand 379. Of these, 1 lakh 70 thousand 501 are male voters and 1 lakh 69 thousand 877 are female voters.
A sufficient number of law enforcement personnel including one Judicial Magistrate, 8 Executive Magistrates, 4 Platoon BGB, 610 police personnel and 10 RAB mobile teams have been deployed in the constituency to make the by-elections free and fair. In addition, about 1,800 Ansar members have been deployed.
The seat was declared vacant following the death of former MP Ekabbar Hossain on November 16, 2021.
