Ivy ahead in NCC mayoral polls

Voting in the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election concluded this afternoon. Awami League mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy is ahead as counting is going on.

So far, results of 134 centers out of 192 centers have been known. Of these, Awami League mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy got 1,13,121 votes while her nearest rival candidate of Elephant symbol Taimur Alam got 65,465 votes. 

Earlier, polling started at 8 am and was continued till 4 pm. Voting for the entire city have been held through electronic voting machines (EVMs). NCC election ended without any major untoward incident. However, there was some tension among the supporters of the councilor candidates in some centers but the situation remained under control due to the intervention of law enforcement agencies.

There are 5,17,357 voters in the city corporation. Of them, 2,59, 646 are male voters and 2,57,511 are women. In addition, there are four third-gender voters. There were 187 polling stations and 1,301 polling booths. Of these, there were 25 makeshift polling stations.

In this election, 7 candidates are contesting for the mayoral post and 146 for general councilor posts and 34 candidates are contesting for the post of reserved women councilor.

There were 30 magistrates in control of law and order in the election. Each center had at least 4 to 5 law enforcement teams; Each team has 4 to 5 policemen and 20 to 22 Ansar members.

The mayoral candidates are Awami League's Selina Hayat Ivy (Boat), Independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker (Elephant), Khilafate Majlish's ABM Sirajul Mamun (Wall Clock), Islamic Movement's Maulana Md. Masum Billah (fan), Independent Candidate Md. Kamrul Islam (horse),  Khilaphate Andolon's Md. Jasim Uddin (banyan tree) and Kallyan Party candidate Rashed Ferdous (watch).
