6 pirates detained with weapons in Bay of Bengal

RAB has detained six pirates with weapons and ammunition in a raid on the coast of Cox's Bazar in the Bay of Bengal on Friday night.
The detained were identified as Nezam Uddin, Md. Shakil, Md. Sajjad, Md. Sujan, Md. Manik and Omar Faruk. All of them are the residents of different areas of Maheshkhali upazila. They were arrested from the Moheshkhali Channel in the Bay of Bengal.
RAB-15 captain of Cox's Bazar, Lt. Colonel Khairul Islam Sarkar, said that a group of bandits were preparing to rob a fishing trawler in Sonadia channel of Maheshkhali in the Bay of Bengal. Six robbers, along with three home-made guns and 11 rounds of ammunition, were detained from a trawler. Further legal action is being taken against them.
Earlier, the Coast Guard recovered 2.5 kg of ice at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. The estimated market value of the recovered ice is Tk 12 crore 50 lakh.
This information was confirmed on Friday morning by the media officer of the Coast Guard headquarters Lt. Commander Abdur Rahman. He said ice worth Tk 12.5 crore was recovered from Dargarchora area of the upazila.
Besides, police and BGB recovered 2.5 kg of ice in Teknaf on January 11. Police arrested a Rohingya woman at that time.
Lt. Col. Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar, BGB-2 commander of Teknaf, said a BGB patrol team raided the beach in Noakhalipara area of Baharchora union of the upazila, where a consignment of ice was being stored for smuggling. At one stage of the operation, the patrol team found a plastic bag under a tree and searched it and recovered two kilograms and 64 grams of ice.
