One person was injured when an unidentified vehicle hit a hearse on Bangabandhu Bridge. The accident took place at around 6:30 am on Friday near Pillar No. 26 of Bangabandhu Bridge. As a result, a long tail of 13-km of traffic has been created from Bangabandhu Bridge East to Elenga.

Due to a long traffic tail on the highway, Dhaka-bound transports are plying on the Bhuapur-Tangail Regional Road from Bangabandhu Bridge East as an alternative.

According to the bridge authority, there was heavy traffic at the Sirajganj area of the western part of the country from early morning. Vehicles were moving slowly. In the morning, a transport hit the Dhaka-bound hearse towards the 26th pillar of the bridge. The driver was injured. Later, the traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane was stopped.

At that time, toll collection was stopped on the bridge. The vehicle started moving after the damaged vehicle was removed from the spot. This created traffic jams on the highways on both sides of the bridge.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Shariful Islam said an accident on the bridge in the early hours of the morning caused traffic tails on both sides of the highway. Besides, due to the traffic, the truck drivers stopped their vehicles and “fell asleep”. This also caused severe traffic jams.

Upon receiving the news, the vehicle started moving after the damaged hearse was removed from the accidental site on the bridge. However, there is heavy traffic on the highway.
