9th-grade schoolgirl killed in M’singh road crash after taking vaccine jab

A ninth-grade student named Razia Sultana Banya, 18, was killed when she was hit by a covered van on her way home after receiving a COVID vaccine jab at Nandail in Mymensingh. 

The deceased Razia Sultana Banya, an only daughter of Khurram Miah of Baruigram village in Chandipasha upazila and a ninth-grader at Nandail Road High School. Razia’s father Khurram is a fruit trader at Nandail Chowrasta Bazar.  

Accroding to locals, Banya received a COVID vaccine jab from Nandail Upazila Health Complex at around 10 am on Thursday. Later, she was returning home on a motorcycle with her cousin. The motorcycle was hit by a speeding-covered van on the Narsunda River Bridge in Nandail upazila. Banya’s cousin is in critical condition after the accident.

Meanwhile, Banya along with other students of Nandail Road High School came to the Upazila Health Complex to receive the COVID vaccine jab. Her untimely death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. 

The dignitaries of the area expressed deep grief and condolences over the death of a schoolgirl and called upon the concerned authorities to visit their respective educational institutions and administer the COVID vaccine to the students.

Nandail Model Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman Akand said the driver of the covered van was detained. The body was handed over without an autopsy as per the demand of the family.
