A local court has sentenced Abul Kalam to life imprisonment for killing his wife. At that time, he was fined Tk 50,000 in default, to suffer six months more imprisonment.

According to court sources, on the morning of March 17, 2013. Abul Kalam hit his second wife Monowara Begum with a stick in the head following a family quarrel at his residence, leaving Monowara dead. The convict went to the run following the incident. Monwara Begum's father Syed Alam filed a case with Naikhyangchhari Police Station on March 18. On 15 October 2014, the police charged Abul Kalam and submitted the final report.

Since the accused has been absconding since the beginning of the case, SDL was appointed by the court for the accused.
