1,200 houses gutted in Rohingya camp fire

At least 1,200 houses were destroyed as a massive fire broke out at Shafiullah Kata Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Naimul Haque of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBN) confirmed the information on Sunday (January 9) evening. It is estimated that about 1,200 houses were burnt down in the incident.

It is learned that the fire broke out at Ukhia Palangkhali Camp No. 16 around 5 pm on Sunday. After receiving the news, the camp people along with APBN and fire service team rushed to the spot and put out the blaze. Later it came under control around 6 pm.

Naimul Haque, superintendent of police (SP) of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBN), said a fire broke out from a house in a Rohingya camp.

It may be mentioned that on January 2, a fire broke out at Corona Hospital run by the United Nations Organization for Migration (IOM) at Camp No. 20 in Balukhali, Ukhia. Which burns 60-70 beds, refrigerators, oxygen cylinders. The fire caused an estimated loss of Tk 10 lakh. 

Armed Police Battalion-14 (APBN) Superintendent of Police (SP) Naimul Haque confirmed the matter. He said the originated at Sari Isolation and Treatment Center near the helipad of Rohingya Camp-20X at Wala Palang Police Camp on 14 APBN.
