Police have detained a teenage gang leader named Rana on charges of taking money from two persons in Raipur, Lakshmipur.
Though he was arrested on Friday night, Raipur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shipon Barua confirmed the matter on Saturday night.
Arrested Rana Dewanji is the son of Sabuj Dewanji of West Keroya Denwaji home. He is widely known in the area as a 'teenage gang leader'. He has been accused of being involved in various criminal activities including snatching, theft and robbery for a long time.
According to the victims, Rana took Rs 9,000 from a woman named Rimi Begum of Uttar Raipur village on January 5 after the name of the police. The next evening, few motorcyclists with 10-12 people raided the house of Siraj Ullah, a day laborer in Charpata village. They beat the family and snatched Tk one lakh.
He borrowed the money from an NGO for his daughter's marriage. When the family members shouted for help, the members of the gang fled leaving a motorcycle behind. The victim women and day laborers complained about this. The police then arrested Rana from the city.
Day laborer Siraj Ullah said, today my daughter is getting married. I borrowed Tk one lakh by taking a loan from an NGO for marriage. But Rana beat me in front of my wife and daughter and snatched the money. I have lodged a written complaint with the police.
Housewife Rimi Begum said, Rana took Tk 9000 from me by after the name of the police. After my arrest, the police recovered my money from him.
Raipur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shipon Barua said Rana Dewanji was arrested on various charges. He will be sent to jail through the court.
