As coronavirus cases are increasing day by day at an alarming rate the government is considering imposing strict lockdown again. As per the recommendation of the National Adviser Technical Committee on coronavirus, strict restrictions may be imposed in a day or two to curb the coronavirus infections.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque came up with the development while distributing winter clothes among the needy at Shuvro Center in Garpara, Manikganj on Saturday afternoon.

Zahid Maleque also said that the number of people infected with coronavirus in the country is 400 times higher. However, the situation has not been such as to close the educational institution yet. If the rate of infection increases further, a decision will be taken in this regard.

Earlier, on Thursday (January 6), Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam had said that one cannot come to an educational institution unless taking a single dose of vaccine. He made the remarks after a special cabinet meeting on controlling Omicron infection. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister also gave various instructions for the implementation of various decisions of the government.

The Prime Minister joined the meeting from Ganabhaban while the Ministers and Ministers of State from the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat.

The cabinet secretary further said that the government is thinking of making vaccine certificates compulsory even for launches and trains. In addition, none will be allowed to go out without wearing a face mask.

He said no one will be allowed to board trains and airplanes unless taking double doses of vaccine. Besides, full vaccination will be required while entering restaurants and shopping malls. He also said that gathering on socio-political and religious events should be limited.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said that in order to control the transmission, it has been decided to move passengers by leaving half the seats vacant in public transport. In this case, no rent can be increased. This will be informed to the transport concerned.

Regarding booster doses, he said, the age limit for inoculating booster doses will be lowered from 60. All frontliners will get a booster dose soon.

He also said that the decision will be announced in a day or two after discussing it with the technical committee.
