Another 705 Rohingyas reached Hatiya Bhasan Char in Noakhali in the 9th phase from Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. They were brought to Bhasan Char by two naval ships on Thursday afternoon. 

Moazzem Hossain, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (Deputy Secretary), who is in charge of the Bhasan Char Rohingya camp, confirmed the matter.

He said 705 Rohingyas were first brought in by the navy ships ‘BNS Tuna’ and ‘BNS Penguin’ at around 2 pm. From there, they were taken to the cluster.

Earlier, a total of 19,662 Rohingyas from different camps in Cox’s Bazar were shifted to Bhasan Char Shelter in eight phases. The government has plans to relocate at least one lakh Rohingyas to Bhasan Char to ease the pressure on the Cox’s Bazar refuge shelter.

On December 4, 2020, in the first phase, 1,642 Rohingyas, including men, women and children, officially relocated to Bhasan Char. They were kept in clusters 7, 8, 9 and 10 prepared for Rohingyas. Among the Rohingyas who came to Bhasan Char in the first phase, there were 810 children, 368 males and 464 females.

Noted that that under the supervision of the Navy, a shelter project is being implemented at a cost of Tk 3,095 crore from the government’s own funds for the relocation of Rohingyas to Bhasan Char on the banks of the Meghna River in Hatiya on April 19, 2019. The infrastructure of 120 cluster villages suitable for 1 lakh Rohingyas has been built in that area of ​​13,000 acres.
