Ferry services on two routes in Shariatpur suspended

Ferry services on Narsinghpur-Chandpur's Harina Ghat and Mangalmajhir Ghat-Munshiganj's Shimulia route have been suspended due to dense fog.
After the suspension of the service, hundreds of passenger and goods-carrying vehicles waited on both sides to cross the river. Passengers have suffered in the severe winter in the ghat area.
It has been reported that due to heavy fog, the authorities suspended the ferry service on the Narsinghpur-Harina Ghat route around 4:30 am on Thursday as visibility fell drastically that creating a long queue of about 200 vehicles including trucks.
Meanwhile, due to the same reason, the ferry service on the Mangalmajhir Ghat-Shimulia route was suspended from 5:45 am.
Abdul Momen, manager of BIWTC's Narsinghpur ferry terminal, said the ferry service was suspended at 4:30 pm on Wednesday in order to avoid untoward accidents due to heavy fog. The ferry named 'Kasturi' got stuck in the middle of the river due to the dense fog.
The ferry service will resume when fog will start to clear, the official added.
Mostafa Kamal, terminal superintendent of BIWTC's Mangalmajhir Ghat, told the media that the ferry service was suspended at 5:45 am to avoid accidents due to heavy fog. The two ferries got stuck in the middle of the river.
