Fire in Turag slam killed 3 children

Three teenagers have died in a fire that broke out in two tinshed houses at Paglar slum in Chondalbhog area of ​​Turag. The children could not survive even after screaming after the fire broke out.

The deceased have been identified as Jahangir (19), Ruma Akhter (17) and Afrin (14). 

Jahangir and Ruma are siblings among the dead. Afrin is their cousin.

According to police and locals, a fire broke out at Suruj Mia's tinshed house on government khas land in Manik Mia slum of Khalpar in Chondalbhog area on Tuesday morning. In the morning, police and fire service recovered the bodies of the three. Jahangir and Ruma's elder brother Alamgir managed to escape from the house after the fire broke out.

Raihan, the media cell official with the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, said the fire service received the news of the fire around 4:15 p.m. Later, three units of Uttara Fire Station went to the spot and brought the fire under control around 6:15 am.

A two-room tinshed house was damaged in the fire. The bodies of three persons were recovered from the house and handed over to Turag police. The fire was initially thought to have been caused by a short circuit.

Jahangir and Ruma's brother Alamgir said he woke up in the morning and saw the fire. He managed to get out but three people were trapped inside. By the time fire service arrived and put out the blaze, the three were no more.

The homw town of the deceased is Dinajpur. Jahangir and Ruma worked in a local garment factory. Afrin used to study at a madrasha in Turag area and lived with her family. She came to visit her auntie. Jahangir's father Suruj Mia and mother Aleya Begum went to visit their village home in Birganj, Dinajpur a few days ago.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Turag Police Station Mehedi Hasan said, “Initially, I came to know that the fire caused due to short circuit. The bodies have been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgues for autopsy.

Whether there is any other reason behind the incident will also be investigated.
