Jhalokathi Launch fire: Another dies at Burn Institute

Another person named Russell Sheikh (38) died in a fire that broke out at MV Abhijan-10 launch on Sugandha river in Jhalokathi.

Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute Coordinator Samanta Lal Sen confirmed the information and said that he died at 11 am on Monday while undergoing treatment at the institute.

He said 28 percent of Russell's body including trachea was burned. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the ICU where he died while undergoing treatment.

Russell's brother Munna Sheikh said their home is in Noapara village in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj. Russell lived at the Mothertech intersection in the capital's Sabujbagh. He used to drive a bakery van.

He further said that Russell was going to visit a relative's house in Barguna Sadar along with 9 members of his family. His wife Putul (32), brother-in-law Kalu (28) and Robin (18) were also injured in the launch fire. 

The fire broke out around 3am on December 23, on the Barguna-bound launch carrying some 800 passengers from Dhaka and it engulfed the entire vessel within 10 minutes. A case has been filed against 28 people including the owner of the launch.
