Cow dung is being dried in Jamuna ghat
Different spars and hardpoints were made for river governance at different times in Sariakandi. Among these, Dighalkandi Hardpoint became a sight to behold when the stairs were built. Hundreds of tourists used to come here in the rainy season. Later, the locals named this spot “Prem Jamunar Ghat”. However, once a nice tourist spot ‘Prem Jamunar Ghat’ of Sariakandi in Bogura is being ruined due to negligence.
Locals are drying cow dung, paddy and storing fuel in this place. As the environment is polluted, tourists are also turning away.
Local auto van driver Yasin Ali said the Prem Jamunar Ghat was very tidy before. Many people used to visit here. Now people do not come here like before due to the pollution. As a result, the income is not the same as before.
Salma Begum, a local resident, said that the fire service came a long time ago and “cleared the place” once. After a few days, people have ruined the environment again.
Sadar UP chairman Abdul Kafi Mandal said the spot ‘Prem Jamunar Ghat’ has been cleaned several times before but locals were unaware of the beauty of the spot.
Sariakandi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rezaul Karim said the administration will inspect the spot. Necessary steps will be taken after inspecting the spot.
