3 killed in Narsingdi election violence

Three persons were killed in separate election violence at two polling centres in Narsingdi Sadar and Raipura Upazilas on Sunday during the third phase of Union Parishad elections. At least 10 others, including police and Ansar members, were injured. 

The incidents took place at two polling centers - Uttar Bakharnagar Primary School of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila and Dairer Par Government Primary School in Chanderkandi Union of Raipura Upazila. 

The deceased were identified as CNG-run autorickshaw driver Arif and Sharif from Chanderkandi Union and Farid Mia of North Bakhranagar. 

Raipura Police Station OC Azizur Rahman said more than 50 supporters of a defeated candidate attacked a police vehicle with domestic weapons after counting votes at the Dairer Par Government Primary School Center in Chanderkandi Union. 

At that time, autorickshaw driver Arif, who was hired by the police, was killed in the clash. At least 10 others, including policeman Shahinur Islam and Ansar members, were injured in the attack. Among them, Sharif, who has sustained bullet injuries, died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Farid Mia, who was injured in violence at Uttar Bakharnagar Primary School, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday evening. 

Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said Farid's body was kept in the hospital morgue.
