The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 14 fishermen who survived eight days in the Bay of Bengal following an engine failure, 140 km from Cox's Bazar.

The fishermen were handed over to the boat owner in Chattogram on Sunday, the navy said.

The rescued fishermen are Monir Ahmed (boatman), resident of Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar, Nawab Mia (son of the boat owner), Saifuddin, Salamat Ullah, Qasim, Shahadat Hossain, Salauddin, Abdur Rahim, Karim, Robi Alam, Russell, Ansar, Selim, and Jabbar.

According to Navy sources, on November 16, 14 fishermen went to sea in a fishing boat named 'FV Miriam'. They were floating in the sea for the last eight days following the engine failure. The navy ship 'Anusandhan' on patrol on Friday afternoon rescued the fishermen. Later, navy men rescued the fishermen and gave them first aid, necessary food, and water.
